Residents Evacuated After Partial Building Collapse in Alexandria
The Alexandria Fire Department was on the scene Thursday morning at a three-story exterior brick veneer wall collapse at 1706 Commonwealth Ave. (between Cliff Street and Bellefonte Avenue), according to the fire department.

Nine apartment units have been evacuated, including 17 residents. There were no injuries.

The American Red Cross is assisting residents with relocation while the building remains uninhabitable.

Commonwealth Avenue was closed in both directions at the scene, but was supposed to reopen during the morning commute.
