High Pressure Gas Line Separation Caused Friday Leak

City of Fairfax Fire Department says issue underground in a vault cause road closure.

High Pressure Gas Line Separation Caused Friday Leak

The separation of a high pressure gas line at a joint underneath Chain Bridge Road was the cause of a gas leak Friday that shut down the road in Fairfax City for about 40 minutes.

City of Fairfax Fire Department Chief Dave Rohr said in an email to Patch the department and a backup unit from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the leak around 11 a.m. Friday at Orchard Street and Chain Bridge Road.

"The leak was the result of a high pressure gas line separating at a joint underground in a vault," Rohr said.

The closure of Chain Bridge Road between Fairfax Boulevard and Eaton Place -- which lasted for 40 minutes -- was "for safety purposes," Rohr said.

The Shell gas station was also temporarily closed during the leak, according to Rohr.

There were no injuries in the incident.
