Tuesday night, police were able to capture the man who held them at bay for more than 29 hours in the City of Falls Church.
Police used non-lethal force (reportedly a TASER) to capture the man at a home in the 600 block of Hillwood Avenue. The man had non-life-threatening injuries and has been transported to a local hospital. Police will not release his name until his family has been notified.
A standoff between police and the man started Monday afternoon after police were called to the home around 4:30 p.m. for a domestic dispute.
When police arrived, the man was alone in the home and armed. Neighbors reported hearing shots fired, but no one was injured. At some point on Monday, the man doused himself and sections of the home with gasoline, police said.
A half-mile section of Hillwood Avenue was blocked off for the duration of the situation, affecting dozens of residents who were evacuated and could not return home, even with a police escort, after 2 p.m. today.
A neighbor said the man was pleasant in the conversations she had with him.
