The school day will be extended in Spotsylvania County Public Schools after a measure approved by the school board Monday to address a bitter winter that led to a pile of unaccounted for snow days.
Set to begin on Monday, March 17, the change will add an additional 25 minutes on to the end of the school day for the rest of the school year. It is an effort to meet state requirements on instructional time.

"Making this change to the instructional day preserves the entire Spring Break and Memorial Day," according to a statement on the district's website.
The new dismissal times are:
- Elementary – 3:50 p.m.
- Middle – 3:10 p.m.
- High – 2:45 p.m.
