Suspect Arrested for Home Invasion Burglary Resulting in Gun Shots
The suspect, Damion Hunnicutt, 22, broke into a home on Heatherstone Drive on June 8 and incited a fight with the homeowner's son.

A suspect was arrested last weekend on charges of felony burglary and assault in connection with a June 8 home invasion burglary in the 1300 block of Heatherstone Drive in Fredericksburg, according to local police.
Witnesses told police that the suspect, Damion Hunnicutt, 22, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, walked into a home on Heatherstone Drive unannounced and began yelling and searching for the 21-year-old son of the homeowner.
When Hunnicutt encountered the son in the downstairs area of the home, a verbal and eventually physical altercation broke out. Hunnicutt reportedly armed himself with a knife from the kitchen, and as the brawl began to escalate the son shot Hunnicutt with a handgun belonging to the homeowners.

Hunnicutt was reportedly shot through one wrist and also suffered a non-penetrating wound to his head. He was taken to Mary Washington Hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The fight eventually spilled outside, where authorities found both men upon responding to calls from neighbors.

Thirteen days later, on Sunday, June 21, Hunnicutt was arrested. He is currently incarcerated at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond, according to authorities, and the shooter is not facing charges.
