An unknown man smacked the woman in the head before she was able to run to a home and get the homeowner to call 911.

Woman Escapes Attacker in Mayfield

A 51-year-old woman reported to police on Feb. 17 that she was attacked by an unknowm man who was possibly carrying a gun in the Mayfield neighborhood.

The frightening incident happened at about 8:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of Airport Road, said Fredericksburg police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe. The victim, who lives in the Mayfield neighborhood, told police that she was leaving her friend's house when a man approached her at her vehicle and struck the left side of her head with some kind of object. The victim told police that she thought it could have been a gun.

The woman fell to the ground, but got up and ran to the door of the nearest home, where the homeowner helped her and then called 911. Police said nothing was stolen from the victim's vehicle and she declined medical treatment.

She thought the suspect was a black man in his 20s wearing all-dark clothing, but police were unable to identify and locate the suspect.
