Alexandria Cancer Survivor Holds 24-Hour Stand Up To Cancer Fundraiser

Pat Malone, a survivor of a rare form of cancer and veteran, will host his ninth annual Stand Up To Cancer fundraiser.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — For the ninth year, an Alexandria cancer survivor will host a 24-hour Stand Up To Cancer fundraiser Friday to Saturday.

The ninth annual fundraiser marks Pat Malone's nine years of surviving cancer. Malone, also a 20-year Air Force veteran, was faced with a Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor, a rare form of cancer involving the lining of nerves. On Feb. 11, 2014, Malone underwent surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

With the surgery and 29 subsequent rounds of radiation at the Radiation Oncology Clinic at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Malone beat the rare cancer. Nine years later after the surgery, Malone is cancer free and in good health.
