License Plate Technology Spots Stolen Vehicle, Pursuit Ensues In VA, MD

A vehicle that was reportedly carjacked from Prince George's County was involved in a pursuit from Fairfax County's Richmond Highway.

HYBLA VALLEY, VA — Police from Virginia and Maryland tag teamed on a pursuit of a stolen vehicle from Fairfax County into Prince George's County, Maryland Sunday. The stolen vehicle had been taken during an armed carjacking in Prince George's County a week prior.

Fairfax County Police's license plate technology alerted officers to a stolen BMW 535 around 5:21 p.m. Sunday. Officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle near Arlington Drive and Richmond Highway in Hybla Valley. According to police, the vehicle fled and struck multiple police cruisers.

The pursuit continued into Prince George's County. The Prince George's Police responded around 5:50 p.m. to assist with the pursuit. The pursuit ended on the Capital Beltway Outer Loop before Branch Avenue in Maryland. The people inside the vehicle fled, but two of the four were arrested. Police recovered five guns from the vehicle.

According to Prince George's County Police, the BMW had been carjacked on Silver Hill Road in District Heights on April 9.

Marquette Staton, 18, of Alexandria, was charged with the carjacking as well as gun-related charges. Terrell Talley, 21, of Alexandria, was charged with the unauthorized use of a vehicle and firearms offenses. Both are in custody at the Prince George's County jail.

Additional charges are pending from Fairfax County Police.
