Mercedes Leads Herndon Police on High-Speed Chase, Driver Suddenly Disappears

Police set up a perimeter and got an assist from a Fairfax County Police helicopter, but they found the car abandoned.

HERNDON, VA — The driver of a Mercedes fled from a police officer on Sunday, speeding through traffic lights in Herndon before abandoning the car and disappearing despite a police perimeter.

An officer from the Herndon Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a gray two-door Mercedes Benz near the intersection of Crestview Drive and Herndon Parkway on Feb. 26, but when he turned on his lights, the vehicle "immediately accelerated and continued to travel at a high rate of speed disregarding traffic signals," according to a report from the police department.

Police set up a perimeter and a Fairfax County Police Department helicopter assisted. They were able to locate the car a short time later in the 400 block of Renau Way, but it was unoccupied, the report states.
