At this week's Town Council work session the council will discuss a number of resolutions and ordinances, including a resolution to adopt the new Herndon brand.

The resolution is one of three public hearings that will be talked about at the work session.

The council will discuss a public hearing for ordinance to approve an amendment to the lease between the town and Andrew LLC for space on the Third Street water tank.

The original lease expires on Dec. 31, 2012. If the new lease is adopted it will extend the agreement through Dec. 31, 2015, with an option for a two year extension. Andrew LLC will pay $2,956.15 per month in rent, including a 3 percent annual increase.

Also up for discussion is a proffered condition amendment for the property at 797 Center St. The applicant, Douglas and Melissa Landau, seek to expand the permitted uses to include medical offices, an artist studio and personal training, while removing photographic studio as a permitted use.

The current agreement allows for professional offices for a licensed massage therapist, photographic studio, counselor, tutor, tailor, tanning services or music lesson instruction.

The final public hearing item discussed at the work session will be the resolution to adopt a new brand for the Town of Herndon. The town's Economic Development Task Force established the need to develop a brand strategy for the town in 2011.

Trialogue Studio, along with a committee of town residents and business professionals, worked together to develop a brand and a strategy for the brand over a number of months. The strategy was unveiled at a town council work session in early September.

The following items will be included on the general agenda for the Town Council's next work session and meeting:

• A resolution on the state of the town report for fiscal year 2011-2012.
• A resolution approving proposed project applications for fiscal year 2014 funding for the Regional Surface Transportation Program/Congestion Mitigation-Air Quality.
• A resolution reallocating existing 2013 Congestion Mitigation-Air Quality funds to a new project called "Herndon Metrorail Intermodal Access Improvements" for the W&OD Trail.
• A resolution authorizing a submission of a recreational trails program grant application from the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
• A resolution authorizing a contract change order for the Downtown Master Plan and Market Study Contract.

The work session will also include two discussion items. They include an update on the Dulles Metrorail Project and the results of the Southeast Herndon Capacity Study, and a discussion of the W&OD Trail crossing at Crestview Drive.

The next Herndon Town Counci public hearing, set for Sept. 26 at 7 p.m., will also include a resolution expressing appreciation to Steve DeBenedittis for his time spent serving the town as mayor, and a proclamation for Herndon Arts Week, set for Oct. 8-13.

The Herndon Town Council work session begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Hoover Conference Room of the Council Chambers, 765 Lynn St. See the full agenda here.
