Tractor-Trailer Fire On I-66 In Gainesville Kills 1: State Police

Virginia State Police said one person died when a tractor-trailer caught fire along the eastbound lanes of I-66 near Gainesville on Monday.

GAINESVILLE, VA — One person died on Monday morning when a tractor-trailer caught fire on I-66 near Gainesville. Authorities have not identified the victim, as police officers work to notify their next of kin.

At 8:48 on Monday morning, Virginia State Police received a report of a tractor-trailer fire in the eastbound lanes of I-66 near exit 43. When troopers arrived on the scene, the vehicle was stopped along the roadway and engulfed in flame.

The fire is still under investigation, Virginia State Police officials said.
