Extreme Heat Causes Hundreds in Manassas Park to Lose Power

Electric company officials are blaming the extreme heat for the temporary lost of power in the small city of Manassas Park Thursday.

The outage began at 4:38 p.m. and last a little over 30 minutes, according to data from the Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative (NOVEC) systems operation center.

About 252 customers in Manassas Park were without power, NOVEC spokeswoman Priscilla Knight said. NOVEC is the sole provider of energy in the city.

Though power was restored quickly, during the outage the air heated up quickly inside one Manassas Park home, a resident wrote on the Manassas Park Facebook page.

A fuse, which was probably weakened by the hot weather and the many thunderstorms in the last few weeks, gave out and is likely the culprit of the power loss, Knight said.
