Did You Know? McLean is Home to The Museum of Bags

Collection at McLean condo features thousands of bags.

Did You Know? McLean is Home to The Museum of Bags
Think you know everything there is to know about McLean? Bet you might not know that it's home to The Museum of Bags.

While not an actual museum you can visit yet, the collection is stored under archival conditions. The museum is presenting a portion of its collection online in anticipation of a traveling exhibition.

It all started in the late 1970s, when Lee Forman, after graduating from American University with a degree in the Arts, began saving shopping bags from Bloomingdale's. Later an award-winning graphic artist, she became interested in the design and history of bags as the collection grew. She lectured about bags as cultural icons and is included in Who's Who in America (2007).

Lee Forman passed away in 2009 after a two-year battle with cancer. Follow  this link to an article in The Washington Post.

Her husband, co-founding trustee Howard Forman, following a career as principal owner of a large distribution business in Washington, D.C., administers the collection and budding museum.
