Oakton Highest Ranked County School on Challenge Index

Annual list names best schools for college prep

Oakton Highest Ranked County School on Challenge Index

Oakton High School was ranked 10th in the D.C. area, the highest ranking for a Fairfax County School, on the Washington Post's annual Challenge Index.

With its score of 4.754, Oakton High stands at No. 104 on the national list.

The index score is the number of college-level tests given at a school in 2011 divided by the number of graduates that year. Also noted are the percentage of students who come from families that qualify for free and reduced lunch, an indicator of poverty, and the percentage of graduates who passed at least one college-level test during their high school career, called equity and excellence, (E&E). More than 170 public and private schools are on the list.
