Alexandria's Zoning For Housing: Take Our Patch Survey
Before Alexandria City Council is expected to take final action on Zoning for Housing in late November, let us know what you think.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Zoning for Housing, a package of zoning reforms seeking to boost housing stock and diversity of housing options in Alexandria, will have its final City Council public hearing on Saturday and final vote on Nov. 28. Patch is opening a survey, allowing readers to share their opinion on the proposal.
Zoning for Housing has been one of the hot button issues in city government this year, as many speakers for and against the zoning reforms have spoken to the Alexandria Planning Commission and City Council. There are eight components to the Zoning for Housing proposal: single-family home zones, townhouse zoning, residential multifamily zones, historic development patterns, coordinated development districts and affordable housing, office to residential conversions, industrial zones, and transit-oriented development. A bonus height for affordable housing proposal was not recommended to move forward.
Speakers in support of Zoning for Housing have cited reasons like the need for more affordable housing and more housing types, but some don't believe the proposal goes far enough. Opposed speakers shared concerns of population growth or more density putting a strain on infrastructure as well as insufficient public outreach on the proposal.
