Woman Escapes Sexual Assault Attempt In Potomac Yard

Alexandria Police are investigating an attempted sexual assault in Potomac Yard and made an arrest for a Del Ray burglary.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A suspect is in custody after an attempted sexual assault of a woman in Alexandria's Potomac Yard neighborhood early Sunday.

The assault attempt happened around midnight Sunday in the 2200 block of Main Line Boulevard. Police said an man tried to sexually assault a woman walking down an alleyway.

Despite a foot pursuit and on a helicopter search, the suspect was not immediately located. Police have found the suspect, who is in custody in another locality. The suspect's identity was not immediately released.

Residents in the area of Main Line Boulevard with security footage or who saw anything suspicious around midnight Sunday were asked to call Detective Matteson at 703-746-6721 or submit video footage online.

In other news, police responded to a residential burglary in the 400 block of East Custis Avenue Saturday night. Police made an arrest and said there was no threat to the public. The suspect's identity was not immediately released.
