Hit-And-Run Kills Alexandria Driver On I-295 In DC, Striking Driver Wanted

An Alexandria driver who pulled over for apparent mechanical issues was struck and killed on DC's I-295.

WASHINGTON, DC — An Alexandria driver was killed in a hit-and-run Monday on DC's Interstate 295, according to Metropolitan Police.

The crash happened around 3:18 a.m. Monday on southbound I-295 before exits 1B and 1C. According to police, a silver 2001 Toyota Corolla was parked on the left shoulder with apparent mechanical issues. The driver was outside the vehicle on the passenger side when a vehicle struck him. The striking vehicle fled from the scene.

Fire and rescue services pronounced the victim dead at the scene. The victim, identified as Rhyes Patrick-James Harris, 30, of Alexandria, was taken to the medical examiner.

Police believe the striking vehicle may be a 1999 to 2003 Ford Windstar minivan with an unknown color. The vehicle may have a broken windshield and a missing driver’s side headlamp. Police provided photos of a similar vehicle.
