New Alexandria School Superintendent To Be Announced At School Board Meeting
The new permanent superintendent for Alexandria City Public Schools will be welcomed at Thursday night's School Board meeting.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The Alexandria City School Board has made its choice for the next permanent superintendent, and the announcement will happen at Thursday night's School Board meeting.
The School Board has been conducting a search process since recruiting consultant McPherson & Jacobson in November 2022 to seek superintendent candidates. The search came after former Superintendent Gregory Hutchings Jr. announced he would resign Aug. 31, 2022. Melanie Kay-Wyatt, the former chief of human resources at ACPS, is serving as interim superintendent.
The search included a public feedback phase that began in December. Applications for superintendent candidates were accepted through Feb. 9, and finalists were expected to be interviewed in March.

The next superintendent will oversee a diverse school district with over 15,700 students and be guided by the ACPS 2025 Equity for All Strategic Plan. Safety will continue to be a priority for ACPS amidst new safety measures introduced during the last school year and plans to introduce a metal detector screening program at middle and high school campuses. The new superintendent will also oversee the continuing school modernizations, including the expansion of the Minnie Howard Campus to increase high school capacity.
Residents may attend Thursday's School Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. in person or virtually. The meeting location is the ACPS Central Office, 1340 Braddock Pl., Alexandria, VA. The meeting will also be live-streamed online.
