No Alexandria Primary Election Scheduled: What's On Ballot In November General Election

While the City of Alexandria do not have a primary election, voters will decide races in the November general election.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — While other Northern Virginia localities will have primary elections on June 20, 2023, no primary is scheduled in the City of Alexandria.

City of Alexandria voters will have a Nov. 7, 2023 general election for Virginia State Senate and House of Delegates seats.

If you have an Alexandria address in Fairfax County, there will be a primary election; visit Fairfax County's website.

Because of mandated redistricting that happened after the 2020 Census, Virginia's legislative district maps have been redrawn. Alexandria will be in the 39th Senate District and the 3rd, 4th and 5th House Districts.

Only some Virginia House of Delegates and Senate districts will have primary elections. There are no primaries in the City of Alexandria, as Democratic candidates are not contested within their party.

State Sen. Adam Ebbin, who currently represents part of Alexandria in the 30th Senate District, is running in the new 39th Senate District in November.

Elizabeth Bennett-Parker, the delegate for the current 45th House District, is running for re-election in the new 5th House District. The new 5th District covers a large share of Alexandria.

The remainder of the city is in the 3rd and 4th House Districts. Charniele Herring, the 46th House District delegate, is running in the new 4th House District.

Alfonso Lopez, the 49th House District delegate, is running for re-election in the new 3rd House District. The current 49th House District he represents has parts of Arlington and Fairfax Counties, but the new 3rd House District will add a part of Alexandria.

City of Alexandria voters may register in advance of the Nov. 7, 2023 election or update their address through the Virginia Department of Elections' citizen portal.
