Five Democrats were on the primary ballot Tuesday to replace Del. Rob Krupicka as the representative for Virginia’s 45th District. The district includes portions of Alexandria, Arlington and Fairfax County. Krupicka announced March 16 that he decided not to run again.
“Between business, family, and public service, it is clear that I’m burning more candles at more ends than I can sustain,” he said. Krupicka recently opened a donut shop called Sugar Shack and will also open a speakeasy, in Alexandria.

Jakopic had won the endorsement of Krupicka.
Phil Cefaratti, running as an Independent candidate to win a seat on the Alexandria City Council, formally congratulated Levine’s win, saying:
“The voters have spoken, and I congratulate Mark Levine in his winning Virginia’s 45th District Democratic Delegate Primary,” said Cefaratti. “If I win a seat on the Alexandria City Council, this November, I look forward to the opportunity of working with Mark, as he’ll potentially be our delegate for the 45th District, representing half of our great city in Richmond. Salutes to Mark, his hard-working campaign staff, and all of his volunteers and supporters in Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax County who helped him win today.”
