Stolen Car Recovered, Suspect Arrested In Alexandria: Police

Alexandria Police pursued a stolen vehicle suspect who fled the vehicle and boarded a DASH Bus.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The pursuit of a stolen vehicle in Alexandria didn't end in that vehicle but rather a DASH Bus last Thursday.

Police had responded to a stolen vehicle around 7:44 a.m. Thursday in the 5400 block of Richenbacher Avenue. Around 8:30 a.m., police spotted the vehicle on S. Reynolds Street and tried to stop it. The driver fled to a dead end near South Van Dorn and Duke Streets before fleeing on foot. From there, the suspect boarded a DASH bus.

The pursuit continued after police located the DASH Bus the suspect was riding. Around 9:18 a.m., police took the suspect into custody during a traffic stop on Seminary Road at Interstate 395.

The suspect, Mauricio Urquilla Escobar, 20, of Alexandria, was charged with grand larceny, driving an unauthorized vehicle, and driving on a revoked license.

In light of the stolen vehicle incident, Alexandria Police encouraged residents to keep vehicles locked, take keys with them and not leave vehicles running while unattended.
