Student Overdoses At Alexandria City High School
Alexandria's superintendent informed families about an overdose that was not fatal at the high school Tuesday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — A non-fatal student overdose was reported at Alexandria City High School Tuesday.
Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Melanie Kay-Wyatt informed families of the overdose. As ALX Now reported, another overdose happened on Dec. 15.
An executive order issued by Gov. Glenn Youngkin in November requires school divisions to notify parents of school-connected overdoses within 24 hours. The order was in response to eight overdoses among students of one Loudoun County high school.

In light of the overdose, Kay-Wyatt directed families and staff to resources, including information on substance abuse prevention and intervention and fentanyl fact sheet. Students needing assistance were encouraged to contact a trusted staff member or CrisisText and Crisis Link by texting CONNECT to 85511 or calling CrisisLink at 703-527-4077.
