The city's website states that no turn on red restrictions are a low-cost option to reduce crashes with pedestrians and vehicles turning on red lights. The city's Vision Zero annual Work Plan for fiscal year 2023 includes implementing no turn on red restrictions in two major corridors with high pedestrian traffic.

If implemented, the changes will join other traffic safety measures coming in early 2023. Five speed cameras will be put in select school zones in early 2023 after approval by Alexandria City Council last year. The city plans to publish the locations of speed cameras online when they are decided.
Over the fall, the city announced it would reduce the speed limit from 35 to 25 mph on North Beauregard Street and implemented 15 mph school zone speed limits on parts of West Braddock Road, North Howard Street, Seminary Road and King Street.
