Ahoy: The Fairfax County Park Authority is recruiting volunteers to join its crew for high adventure at Lake Fairfax Park’s inaugural Pirate Fest on Saturday, July 26.
Buccaneers are needed to lead pirate boat tours, run fishing programs, costume contests and treasure hunts. Sailors are also needed to man a children’s deck featuring sailing, science and crafts.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., rain or shine. If you’re the swashbuckling type, sign up to set sail with at Piratefest Volunteer Staffing.
This special event promises to be memorable for volunteers and attendees alike. The Children’s Deck will be as wild as a ship in a storm, with pirate-themed moon bounces, puppet shows, stories and craft activities to delight young swabs.
Pirates will share stories about life on the high seas and lead pirate boat tours on the lake. The schooner Lion will be moored and open for exploration, and the air will be filled with the sounds of sailors singing sea chanteys, tavern tunes and pirate ditties. Kids in pirate costumes will use their maps to find the spot marked with an "X" on an exciting treasure hunt.
Lake Fairfax Park is located at 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr. in Reston. Tickets to Pirate Fest are $10 in advance; $12 at the gate; and $6 for Water Mine pass holders. Purchase tickets online or by calling (703) 222-4664.
