Can Gov. McAuliffe Clean Up after the McDs?

Gov. McAuliffe asks why legislators should take ANY gifts for doing the people's work. Will he succeed in cleanup? what about that trial?!

Can Gov. McAuliffe Clean Up after the McDs?

Governor Terry McAuliffe is sickened like many of us by the unfolding story of Ex-Governor Bob and partner in crime Maureen. So much so that Terry is asking questions for all to hear—including his Democratic colleagues in the House of Delegates and the Senate—such as “why should any of them be taking any gifts beyond a ceremonial key or cap” for doing their jobs?! McAuliffe seems to mean it. He has already established a $100 cap on gifts for anyone in the executive branch. This talk must be troubling to all the Republicans and Democrats alike who have been suckling up to big time fat cats like Dominion Power for gifts for many years. Dominion contributes millions in “legit” campaign cash to all legislators and a few hundred thousand more in “personal” gifts like travel, Redskins luxury suite engagements, etc. After the McDonnell scandal became public, the legislators promised action to clean up their act, and passed a farcical piece of legislation designed to protect the gifts they’ve been getting, including specifically those from Dominion. Thankfully, Gov. McAuliffe vetoed the bill. Now, let’s hope he follows through with a cleanup.
How about the McDonnells’ trial? Has this not provided some fine theatre and Emmy-caliber acting? Imagine it turning it out that Bob and Maureen, his wife of 38 years, were barely speaking because the cash and gifts were coming in so fast from that cute Jonnie Williams that it took all their time just to check in the loot! On the side, Guv Bob was doing governor stuff, going on all those trips Jonnie paid for--all the while tsk-tsking his kids about taking all the golf clubs, wedding receptions, dresses, etc from Jonnie. But, they kept everything as did Gov. Bob. God knows he tried to stop asking for and taking the gifts. But, then he was off in the Ferrari to try out his own new golf clubs. And all those big checks from Jonnie to keep track of, but not record on those pesky disclosure forms. Poor Governor Bob. Now he’s on trial for taking $175,000 or more—could ruin him! Maybe his 8 or 10 lawyers and Maureen’s can figure out a plan to explain all!? Sure enough, they did! Gov. Bob moved out of the house and in with a PRIEST for the duration of the trial. Might look good and make it a little easier when Maureen found herself under the bus where Bob and his legal team threw her. Turns out she masterminded the whole thing with her secret lover, Jonnie. So, it absolutely had to be done! No choice if they were to protect Bob from doing real time on 8 or 10 counts of corruption, perjury and the like. Then whisper to the judge and jury that Maureen was seeing a witch doctor because she was not quite right in the head—all the pressure of being first lady to a fine, upstanding man like Bob. Maybe they’ll find her innocent because she’s loony tunes. A generous part of the defense plan this last—may even have been Bob’s idea? So, what’s gonna happen? The ex-Governor should get jail time--guilty of several of the charges and because the court needs to show the whole VA political class that there are some limits. He should be disbarred because he is too sleazy for words. But, he likely will get none of the above out of respect for a truly superb job of acting and lying about his deeds. My prediction is the Guv. Bob will go on to speaking roles for the Heritage Foundation and political analysis for Fox. Maureen and Bob will stay together. They deserve each other so.
