Dr. Tisseront's 11th Annual Halloween Candy Buy-Back benefiting our Troops overseas and Children's National in DC

Dr. Tisseront's 11th Annual Halloween Candy Buy-Back has broken all previous candy collection records!

Didn't know what to do with all that leftover Halloween Candy? Or maybe your child came home with a pile of candy that just may last 'til summer? Dr. Stephan Tisseront, an orthodontist in Reston, VA, has the solution each year with his Halloween Candy Buy-Back event! Dr. Tisseront will pay you for your candy! $2 per pound, to be exact! $1 is donated directly to Children's National, and $1 goes back to the child/family donating their candy. Each year, Dr. Tisseront and his team organize this community-wide event and once all is said and done, over 1000 pounds of candy is shipped overseas each year to our men and women stationed overseas through Operation Shoebox. This year, all previous year's records were broken with 1,679 pounds of candy collected!! This enabled Dr. Tisseront to donate just over $2,100 to Children's National this year, and to bring the total of his donations to Children's over the past 11 years of holding this annual community event to over $20,000.

As the event grows each year, so does the network of local businesses who support Dr. Tisseront's event. We had generous raffle prizes donated from PR Partners at Reston Town Center, Clyde's of Reston, The Bike Lane in Reston, Mayflowers at Reston Town Center, Ice Skating at Reston Town Center, Pitango Gelato in Reston, Great Harvest Bakery in Herndon, MainStreet Bank in Herndon, Ben & Jerry's at Reston Town Center and a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre from the Apple Store in Reston! Last but not least, decorations for the event were donated by Meadows Farms! Support from the school community has grown as well; BPC Preschool came all the way from Burke to drop off 200 pounds of candy and Fox Mill Elementary school students dropped off over 130 pounds of candy! Long & Foster Realtors of Great Falls collected just over 80 pounds of candy to drop off at the event!

A letter-writing station for the community to sit down and write letters and draw pictures of gratitude to Troops overseas is one of the biggest highlights of the four-hour event. "Everyone who drops off candy is encouraged to stop by our Letter Station and write a note or draw a picture for our troops before they leave", says Dr. Tisseront. Families also enjoy hot apple cider and a temporary tattoo booth.

Our men and women who serve overseas look forward to packages with candy from home together with notes from the community. Each box shipped receives at least 2 to 4 letters and drawings before being closed up for the long journey. And every year, moving services are donated by Steve & Angie of Arpin Group, International and this year also by Star International Movers, Inc. both under the American Association of Movers, Inc. to help ensure all the candy is brought to Operation Shoebox safely.

Look out for next year's event, generally held on a Monday the first week of November during the two-day student holiday.
