Reston-trained dancer leaves soon for Russia—and a film is being made about her career.

Kampa's 'Journey' Continues With Film

who trained at the and is the first American to dance with the Mariinsky Ballet, will leave in June for her new assignment in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Local filmmaker Ken Ferguson has followed Kampa, 23, for months, creating footage that he hopes to make into a movie about how Kampa went from preschooler taking ballet at a shopping center to a renowned dancer.

Ferguson showed his work so to an audience at the last week. He hopes to produce the finished product into a film titled  American Ballerina: An Improbable Journey to Russia.

Ferguson told the Fairfax Times the documentary is in the working stage and far from a finished product. He says he hopes to illustrate to potential feature film investors the power of Kampa’s story.
