UPDATE: 8:49 p.m.
Fairfax County Public Schools Public Information Office John Torre said that "not all the alleged participants were South Lakes students."
An altercation between seven teenage students in Reston resulted in a heavy police presence around Roundleaf Court and Becontree Lane early Tuesday morning.
According to Fairfax County Police, officers responded to a report of an altercation in the 1400 block of Roundleaf Court around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Some of the participants in the altercation fled to the area of the 1500 block of Becontree Lane, near Forest Edge Elementary School.
The altercation continued there, and no weapons were used. However, bus drivers and several students in the area observed the altercation and contacted police. Patrol officers and school resource officers worked together on the incident.
The incident occurred while students at Forest Edge were arriving at school, leading to many parents seeing police cars and officers as they dropped their children off.
A notice was later sent to Forest Edge parents informing that them that an incident had taken place near school, but did not involve Forest Edge or its students.
"All parties involved in the altercation, seven male teens, knew each other and the incident was not 'random,'" said Lucy Caldwell, Fairfax County Police Spokeswoman. "No one was injured and no charges were placed. Parents of all teens were contacted and school resource officers conducted the investigation."
South Lakes High School administration has not yet responded to requests for comment, but we'll keep you updated if more information comes in.
