Reston/Herndon Area One of the Safest Places for Pedestrians in Fairfax County
Fairfax County has identified 11 problem areas in the county, and none are in the Reston/Herndon area.

RESTON/HERNDON, VA — The Reston/Herndon area is one of the safest areas for pedestrians in Fairfax County, according to a new report from the police department.
Fairfax County Police announced a "Street Smart Traffic Safety Initiative" aimed at reducing pedestrian injuries and fatalities, and released a map showing where crashes involving injury to a pedestrian have happened in the county between Jan. 1, 2011 and July 28, 2016. The Traffic Division Crime Analyst identified 11 areas where there has been a higher incidents of pedestrian fatal or serious injury crashes over that period, and none of them are anywhere near the Reston or Herndon areas.
In fact, the number of incidents in Reston and Herndon appear to be quite low compared to the rest of the county, with most of them concentrated in the area of Reston Town Center.

Fairfax County advises motorists to slow down and look ahead for pedestrians, especially in residential and shopping areas. Pedestrians are advised to make an effort to be seen, and to cross only where it is permitted.
