Thursday morning at the Scripps National Spelling Bee semi-finals at National Harbor, 46 kids took the stage one by one to spell words like "coffret" and "camembert."
One of them was Jae Canetti, 12, a 6th-grader at Reston's Hunters Woods Elementary. This is his third time at the spelling bee and his second time to make it to the semi-finals.
At about 12:30 p.m., Jae took to the stage and correctly spelled the word "Holi" a Hindu spring festival; unfortunately, he misspelled the word "parseval," a non-rigid airship.
He received a standing ovation on Thursday from his peers in the auditorium at National Harbor. Jae will still qualify for the spelling bee for the next two years.
