Reston Yoga Studio Organizes Buses for Women's March on Washington

The owner of Beloved Yoga says she was taken aback by the response to her invitation.

RESTON, VA — On Saturday, as many as 200,000 people will descend on the National Mall the day after Inauguration Day to demonstrate in favor of women's rights in what figures to be one of the largest marches in D.C. in years. And the owner of a Reston yoga studio is pitching in to help.

Maryam Ovissi, the owner of Beloved Yoga at 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive, has helped organize two buses to take dozens of people to the Women's March on Washington on Jan. 21.

It all started when she asked students if they had any interest in attending the march, and it grew exponentially from there, surprising Ovissi.

"In a small town like Reston, word gets around fast," she told Patch.

Now, she has two fully booked buses that will carry 57 people to the march, as well as a wait list of about 20 people who she hasn't been able to find seats for.

The Women's March on Washington will take place on the National Mall the day after Donald Trump's swearing in as president. Many news outlets initially reported that it was an anti-Trump protest, a charge that its organizers fiercely denied. Although people of all political stripes are welcome to join the march, it is expected to draw mostly those who are opposed to Trump.

But that doesn't mean Trump supporters won't be in attendance -- a surprising amount will be joining, according to Ovissi, who noted that one of the people helping to organize this trip is a Trump supporter.

"There are not a lot of them, but there are a few," she said. "Part of the purpose of this is we're just trying to get past that campaign rhetoric and be welcoming."
