Will Reston Be the New Home of the Washington Redskins?
Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is lobbying hard for a move to Virginia, and he's touting Reston as one of the reasons.

RESTON, VA -- Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe is aggressively courting the Washington Redskins to relocate from Maryland into Virginia -- and Reston could be at the top of the list for where a stadium would be built.
In an interview with local radio station ESPN 980, McAuliffe pointed out that the majority of season ticket holders are Virginians and the state would be a natural home for the Redskins. The team's lease at FedEx Field lasts until 2027, but owner Daniel Snyder appears ready to move elsewhere and hired a stadium architect to draw up designs.
McAuliffe brought up the economic development in the Tysons Corner area in the interview, and specifically the Reston/Wiehle area, which has certainly changed a lot in the last two decades that the Redskins have spent in Maryland.

Reston could be ideal for the Redskins. Thanks to the Silver Line, the area now has Metro access allowing Redskins fans from all over the Metro-accessible area to flow in. And since there's plenty of wide open space -- unlike in the District -- construction of the facility wouldn't be as constrained and there would be plenty of room for parking.
McAuliffe said Reston and other nearby locations would be "great places for a new stadium," provided a deal could be worked out that would be fair to the taxpayers.

ESPN 980's Chris Cooley, a former Redskins tight end who still works for the team, said during the interview that he believes a decision will come before the presidential election in November.
