UPDATE: Lights Back on to Nearly 3,000 Who Lost Power in Vienna
Thousands of homes across Northern Virginia were without power Wednesday night; temperatures were also expected to take a plunge.
On Thursday morning, a Dominion Power outage map showed a cluster of 74 homes or businesses without power in Vienna. It appears from the map that the area is near Courthouse and Maple Avenue.
A message on the outage map notes the power will be back on in that cluster between 5-11 p.m.
High winds that likely downed trees, knocked out power Wednesday night to more than 3,000 homes in Vienna. The area is under a Wind Advisory from the National Weather Service with gusts forecast up to 50 MPH.
A Dominion Power outage map, at 12:15 a.m. Thursday showed Vienna riddled with clusters of outages, with the largest number, 3,172, off of Malcolm Road Northwest.
In all 34,111 homes in Fairfax County were without power, 42,876 in Northern Virginia in all, just before midnight Wednesday.
The estimated time the power would be back on in Vienna was not available on the Dominion site. The problems cited for the outage ranged from "storm," to "pending investigation."
The National Weather Service issued the Wind Advisory that started Wednesday at 6 p.m. and is expected to be lifted by Thursday at 11 a.m. Northern Virginia is seeing a huge dip in temperatures. Wednesday's highs were near 70 degrees. The high Thursday is expected to be 36 degrees.
