Last year, the school system got it wrong when they held school on a day that most considered a no-brainer for a snow day. Twitter blew up when Fairfax County Public Schools held school anyway.

It all began the night before, when students began tweeting their favorite snow day thoughts featuring...who else? Their favorite Fairfax County School Board Member, Ryan McElveen. McElveen has become a star to area students, especially when it comes to calling snow days. McElveen is often the first to tweet the news, so students keep an eye on his Twitter account the night before, when the skies begin to threaten.

McElveen’s face is often featured in a variety of hilarious images on Twitter created by the students. McElveen is a good sport about it; he takes it light and pokes fun at himself, even using his own photo to depict “Elsa” from Disney’s Frozen.

Look for #CloseFCPS to become a national trending topic this week on Twitter.
