Police: Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Train in Dumfries

A Virginia Railway Express train on the Fredericksburg line struck and killed a pedestrian in Dumfries Monday night, according to officials.

VRE train 311 was stopped on the tracks near Cherry Hill Road in Dumfries for what VRE called a "trespasser strike" in an advisory.

Train 313 was held at the Woodbridge station. As of 9:15 p.m., VRE said train 313's equipment was on the move and "should be alongside 311 in approximately 15 minutes."

Prince William County Police posted an advisory on their Facebook page that there was a confirmed fatality and investigators were on scene. Immediate information concerning the gender of the pedestrian has not been released.

In October, a pedestrian was struck and killed in Spotsylvania County on the Fredericksburg line.
