Toxic Algae Alert Issued For Lake Tapps, Other Pierce County Lakes
The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department issued an advisory about toxic algae on Friday.

BONNEY LAKE, WA - The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department on Friday issued a toxic algae warning for parts of Lake Tapps. The warning follows five other toxic algae warnings issued for Pierce County lakes since mid-May. Sun and warm temperatures have contributed to the growth of the harmful cyanobacteria, also called blue-green algae.
Lake-users are cautioned not to touch or enter water where warning signs have been placed. Pet owners should take extra caution to prevent animals from drinking or wading in the water. Cyanobacteria can cause a rash-like reaction in humans, and other reactions like dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, and heart problems.
