Last July, the City of Edmonds on the west side of Sunset Avenue between Bell and Casper streets.

The plans also include a five-foot bike lane, and both would offer unobstructed views of the Sound.

Now, the City is seeking public input on the project, which is part of the city’s six-year transportation improvement program.

The city will repurpose the existing right-of-way along Sunset Avenue to create 2,000 feet of bicycle and pedestrian trail. It will connect existing parks and trails to create recreational loops in the downtown area and nonmotorized access to the ferry, transit, waterfront parks, dining and shopping.

The City says the project is intended to complete the downtown waterfront walkway—which stretches south to Marina Beach Park—and create a loop trail that will not only beautify the Edmonds waterfront but provide American With Disabilities Act access and improve safety for walkers, joggers and bicyclists.

It will create additional opportunities for people to come to the downtown area, enticing them to stay for longer periods of time and frequenting the local establishments, says the City
