Two people from Bothell have died and four were injured when a tree fell onto their vehicle Friday afternoon about 21 miles west of Leavenworth on Stevens Pass, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Timothy Desmond Owen was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban east on Highway 2 when it was struck by a falling tree at about 1:20 p.m.
Owen, 58, was killed at the scene, as was Cheryl Janine Reed, 56, the State Patrol said.
Four other passengers were injured and taken to Central Washington Hospital, the State Patrol said. Those injured include Jeremy Mathias Owen, 22; Jamie Owen Mayor, 24; Steven T. Mayor, 24; and Jessica Janine Owen, 27.
The State Patrol said the highway was closed between Stevens Pass and Milepost 84 east of the summit, but reopened in both directions several hours later.
