Washington State Patrol troopers have arrested a Bellevue man in connection with a vehicle crash Saturday morning on Interstate 90 on Mercer Island.

The crash occurred at about 7:48 a.m. when the 29-year-old Bellevue man, who was driving a 2001 Audi A4 east on I-90 in the HOV lane, went to pass another vehicle near the Island Crest Way exit, the State Patrol said.

He reportedly moved into the next lane where a Seattle man was driving a 1998 Nissan pickup truck. The Bellevue man then lost control of the Audi and struck the Nissan, the State Patrol said. The Audi then came to a stop facing westbound in that lane, the report said. The Nissan came to rest two lanes over.

The injured Bellevue man was taken to Overlake Hospital for treatment and then booked into King County Jail. Patch generally does not name suspects until they are formally charged with a crime.

The Seattle man driving the Nissan, Ahmad B. Mamdo, 20, and his passenger, Gilma H. Martinez Crisanto, 25, were both injured and transported to Overlake Hospital, according to the State Patrol.

Both vehicles were totalled and impounded.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The State Patrol said drugs and/or alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The crash blocked two lanes of I-90 for several hours Saturday morning as well as the Island Crest Way eastbound on-ramp and the HOV ramp from 80th Ave SE.

The State Patrol, paramedics, firefighters, an incident response team and tow assistance all responded to the scene.

As of 1:30 p.m., all the lanes and ramps in the area were back open to traffic.
