Mountains Plus Earns 'Fastest-Growing' Ranking in Inc. Magazine

Local sporting goods retailer Mountains Plus Outdoor Gear was ranked the Inc. 500|5000 list for the second year in a row with three-year sales growth of 237 percent.

Inc. magazine ranked local business Mountains Plus Outdoor Gear No. 64 in retail (#24 in Seattle and #1301 overall) on the 2012 Inc. 500|5000, and is the second time in a row the sporting goods retailer was included in the ranking, according to a press release.

The Inc. magazine ranking is compiled from the nation's fastest-growing private companies based on a three-year revenue growth rate. According to the publication, the list "represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy — America’s independent entrepreneurs."

's inclusion places them among fast-growing companies such as Facebook, Yelp and other prominent brands featured on this year’s list.

According to the list, Mountains Plus turned an annual revenue of $2.4 million last year, a 237 percent increase over 2008's revenue of $713,174. Over the past three years, the company has doubled its staff to eight employees.

In an unsteady economic environment, median growth rate of 2012 Inc. 500|5000 companies remains an impressive 97 percent. The companies on this year’s list report having created over 400,000 jobs in the past three years, and aggregate revenue among the honorees reached $299 billion.
