David Lloyd Whited will appear at a book release party for "Olde Man Coyote Goes to Towne" from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, at SoulFood Books in Redmond. Come celebrate with us as we honor a fine poet for a book 15 years in the making.
First in the Distinguished Poets series in Seattle's literary heyday, David Lloyd Whited is the author of numerous poetry books including: Three in One (Red Sky Press), The Elevens (Black Heron Press), and Shadow Dance (nine muses books). His most recent publication is Olde Man Coyote Goes to Towne. David lives with his wife, Marian, on Vashon Island, and is the doorman for four cats. Father to two grown children, one of each gender, he is also the dispute negotiator for a gaze of adopted raccoons, and the designated flower raiser for the local deer family. David also serves as the mayor of the Turkey Butt Revival and Catfish Durby [sic] in one of his official roles.

What I find in David’s work is a singular voice--wise and wry, without being cynical. Deeply affected by nature, without romanticizing. Spiritually profound, without being the least woo-woo. His metaphors are complex, yet accessible without being dumbed-down or the least sentimental. And he's funny-- straight-face funny: the most distilled brand of humor. It takes practice not to break character, and the character this collection inhabits is that of Coyote -- Trickster, Holy Gangster, Pricker of that Which is Overinflated, Howler at the Moon. --Allison Ohlinger, Redmond Centennial poet
