RV Fire Causes Traffic Nightmare On I-405

The second disaster of the day along I-405 hit near rush hour when an RV caught fire, triggering a brush fire.

RENTON, WA - An RV caught fire Thursday afternoon in the northbound lanes of I-405 near North 30th Street in Renton, causing the closure of all northbound lanes and gridlock between I-405 and I-5.

The RV caught fire just before 4 p.m. at the Kennydale Hill. The blaze quickly spread to a grassy hillside along the highway. Renton and Bellevue firefighters used foam to extinguish the fire, which delayed the reopening of the highway due to cleanup.

I-405 reopened around 5:30 p.m. Before noon on Thursday, a tractor-trailer rolled over along the off-ramp connecting southbound I-5 to northbound I-405. Due to cleanup, that off-ramp was closed for more than an hour.
