An explosion and fire in a Klahanie garage left a homeowner with minor injuries, and $100,000 in damage to the structure and contents of the attached garage.

Firefighters with Eastside Fire & Rescue (EF&R) responded to the report of an explosion and fire in a garage at the 24200 block of SE 43rd Place just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday night, Jan. 23.

Upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible from the garage, Eastside Fire said in a press release. 

Firefighters quickly worked to protect the nearby exposures and extinguish the garage fire. The homeowner was at home when the blast occurred, and suffered a minor injury when trying to extinguish the fire before fire crews arrived on the scene. Inside the home, firefighters found the family's cat during their primary and secondary search of the home and administered oxygen to treat the cat for smoke inhalation.

The family's dog, Rufus, ran away as the family was escaping and is still missing, KOMO News reports.

The King County Fire Marshal’s Officeis investigating the cause of the blaze, which is estimated to have caused $50,000 of damage to the structure and $50,000 damage to the contents. 

The units that responded to the fire were B71, E83, E71, E81, E82, E74, L73, A71, A75, AU81, Medic 14, and ES103; the KCFMO and Red Cross responded as well.
