Person Drowns At Green Lake In Seattle

Seattle medics were called to the area of Green Lake near Duck Island around 4:15 p.m. Friday for an unresponsive person.

SEATTLE, WA — A person drowned in Green Lake in Seattle on Friday afternoon, according to Seattle fire officials.

Firefighters were called to the area near Aurora Avenue and West Green Lake Drive at around 4:15 Friday on a report of an unresponsive person in the water. Firefighters pulled the person to the shore and attempted life-saving efforts there.

Seattle police are investigating the drowning, according to fire officials.

The last drowning at Green Lake was in July 2018 when kayaker, Taiga B. Hinckley, 20, who had been missing for several days before his body washed up along the shoreline. In 2014, two men — Abeney Getachew, 23, and Euel Desta, 21 — drowned in the lake after entering the water to retreive a soccer ball.

The Green Lake incident happened just a few minutes after Seattle firefighters responded to Lake Washington in the Leschi neighborhood for a reported swimmer in distress. That person turned out to be OK, the department said.
