Video: Uber Driver Crashes Into Seattle Gas Station, Causing Explosion

Seattle police say the accident happened around 8 p.m. Monday in North Seattle.

SEATTLE, WA - A spectacular car crash and explosion at a North Seattle gas station was caught on a surveillance camera, although Seattle police report there were no fatalities.

The accident happened around 8 p.m. Monday along Holman Road Northwest. The vehicle that hit the gas station was driven by a 60-year-old man, who was on duty as an Uber driver, KOMO News confirmed with the company. The driver had a 40-year-old female fare in his car at the time of the accident.

The Uber driver was driving his Nissan X-Terra northbound on Holman when he allegedly struck another car, a Honda Civic. The Civic slid sideways across a planting strip and hit a tree, cutting the car in half.

The Nissan, meanwhile, continued northbound for two more blocks before crashing into the gas station at the corner of 4th Avenue Northwest, which is across the street from the QFC shopping plaza.

The 35-year-old driver of the Civic was taken to Harboview with serious injuries, and the female passenger in the X-Terra was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the Nissan was unharmed.

Police are still investigating what caused the crash. The driver was given a field sobriety test at the scene, but was neither arrested nor detained.
