On Tuesday, August 14th don’t miss the North City Jazz Walk for the best live jazz around. Music plays in 10 venues from 7 – 10 p.m.  Come at 6 p.m. when the street closes for “Jazz Bites”, quick food along 15th NE prepared especially for the event.  The 2012 line-up of 10 groups offers a close-up experience with some of the area’s best jazz players including several Shoreline residents.

Doug Reid, Shoreline Community College professor resides in the Westminster Triangle. A well-known saxophonist, Doug returns to the North City Lounge with his gritty roadhouse sound.  The lounge will be hopping. Plan to stop in for a great spaghetti dinner. Dr. Tim Norton of Health Chiropractic and Massage in Gateway Center sponsors this lively stage.

The Bill Anschell Trio performs at the North City Bistro.  Bill lives in the Northridge neighborhood. A Seattle native, Bill returned with his family to the Northwest in 2002.He chose Shoreline as a great place to live, be near family, and put his son in great schools.  Son Sam now attends Shorewood High School where he plays a mean sax.  The trio – Bill on piano, Chris Symer on bass, and Jose Martinez on drums – plays under the Chuck Cady/Ann Babb-Nordling stage banner at the North City Bistro.

A number of Shoreline students will perform in the Shoreline Summer Jazz Camp showcase at a free concert on the Show Mobile stage.  The Camp is directed by Jim Sisko and sponsored by the Shoreline/Lake Forest Park Arts Council.

Keith McClelland, who lives in Richmond Highlands and practices law in Shoreline, brings his Shear Jazz Quintet to the Laughing Ladies Stage. The quintet, sponsored by Edward Jones- Stephanie Santeford, features the phenom Jacques Willis on vibes in terrific interplay with guitar, piano, bass, and drums.

The remaining six venues boast great music indoors and outside.

Iconic jazz vocalist  Greta Matassa headlines the North City Jazz Walk with the dynamic Critical Mass Big Band at  St. Mark Church. Carlos Cascante’s Tumbao plays salsa dance music under the stars in front of Phoenix Art Restoration, Stephanie Porter performs in the North City Theatre, Jimmy Holden returns to the North City Eagles, Hook Me Up offers a mix of jazz and pop under the overhang at Frank Lumber Delivery Store, and Casey MacGill brings sweet, sometimes rough-hewn, three part harmony vocals and a rhythm section to Brown’s Coffee.

For details and ticket sales information, visit northcityjazzwalk.org. Advanced tickets for $12 are on sale now. Capacity at indoor venues is limited so buy tickets early at designated locations or  online. Tickets will be available the night of the event for $15.
