Man Charged For Stealing More Than $1,000 in Items From Boston Store; Starting Fight

Suspect in the crime has been charged with one count of felony retail theft and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

BROOKFIELD -- A man who reportedly tried stealing more than $1,000 in items from Boston Store only to get into a fight with store security, has been formally charged in court.

Douglas Carroll, 40, of Milwaukee, has been charged with one count of felony retail theft and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. If convicted, Carroll could face up to three-and-a-half years imprisonment on the felony charge.

According to the complaint, Brookfield police were dispatched to the Boston Store on June 26 just before 4 p.m. on a report of a fight between a suspect and loss prevention employees at the store.

When officers arrived, they observed that Carroll had already been handcuffed by officers, stating that he was uncooperative with loss prevention officers, but became cooperative upon the presence of Brookfield police officers.

According to his complaint, Carroll was observed on store security cameras loading items into his shopping cart, only to push the loaded cart past the checkout without paying.

Thirteen items were recovered with a total value of $1,192.63.

Carroll is out on a $2,500 signature bond and has been ordered to appear in court on July 14.
