With an agreement in hand, Village officials hope to have the Four Mile and Douglas Avenue underpass project underway this fall.

Tom Lebak, the village administrator, told the Village Board Tuesday night that a few last minute details still need to be worked out, but they hope to have the project bid out in July and have the bids open by Sept. 1.

The project, which is meant to ease traffic congestion along the railroad tracks on Four Mile Road just west of Douglas Avenue, has been in the works since 2005. The underpass project was initiated because of a $2 billion We Energies expansion, which was just completed in January. Lebak said the bid needs to come in under the amount of money the village is getting from We Energies, which is $600,000 over 20 years. The money will fund the construction of the overpass.
