Watch Video of 'Dramatic' Fourth of July City Bus Fire

A bystander at 76th and Layton captured fireworks of a different kind on July 4 after watching a City of Milwaukee bus become engulfed.

GREENFIELD, WI — A bystander in Greenfield captured dramatic footage as local firefighters battled a blaze after a Milwaukee City bus caught fire.

According to the Greenfield Fire Department, the driver was traveling in the area of 76th Street and W. Layton Ave. just after 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 when the driver recognized a problem with the bus.

Authorities said the driver led an evacuation of the bus, and managed to get everyone out before the rear end of the bus caught fire.

When you see the video footage, you can see flames rise up over the back of the bus, at times engulfing the engine compartment.

City of Greenfield Police helped lead passengers to safety and cleared traffic so that first responders could begin quelling the blaze.

Authorities reported that everyone was evacuated safely and that there were no injuries as a result of the fire.

Officials said they are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. "It's incredibly rare for something like this to happen," said Matt Sliker, MCTS spokesman in a FOX 6 report.
