UPDATE: 35-Year-Old Stone Lake Man Identified in Hit-And-Run Crash

A 35-year-old Stone Lake man who suffered life-threatening injuries in a hit-and-run crash has been identified by authorities.

HAYWARD, WI — A 35-year-old Stone Lake man suffered life-threatening injuries in hit-and-run crash on Highway 77 in Sawyer county. A 46-year-old Hayward man also suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

The vehicle, a 2008 Pontiac G6, crashed on Hwy 77 West of US 63. The driver was ejected and transported by helicopter to St. Marys Hospital in Duluth with serious injuries. The passenger was transported to the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital by ambulance.

On Tuesday, police identified the driver and passenger of the Pontiac G6 as Kevin Thayer, a 35-year-old Stone Lake man, and Roger Sutton, a 46-year-old man from Hayward. According to the State Patrol, Thayer sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was asked to investigate a crash that occurred during a pursuit of hit and run suspects by the Sawyer County Sheriffs Department and the Hayward Police Department.

At 1:35 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 16, a crash occurred on Highway 77 at West of Hwy 63 in Sawyer County near Hayward.

No other vehicles were involved. The crash is under investigation by members of the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit.
